Here's my take and it's very much similar to yours Dwaine:
The social aspect of the game and being Sayomi/Eve allows me to play 2 very different spectrum women that I, personally am not. These characters allow me to be someone I'm not and think outside of the box as if I were stuck in the real world of Vampire. What would I do, how would I react and based off the way I build my character, what emotional ties will she create, why does she want to create these ties and how did she get to the point of creating these ties. As much as I love the socializing of human beings over beer, wings and pool, the concept of being able to get into my costume intrigues me, it allows me to plan out what mood my character will be in (is she in her VP boss mood, or is she feeling like a total High Society lady).
On top of all the social interaction as my character(s) the downtime actions allow me to use the curiosity gene I was given and bring out my inner child of I really need to find out more on what happened. Let's use Vanessa's shooting in the backroom of the OBA, if i didn't have the downtime actions to go and do my investigation, everyone would know what I'm up too, they would see the crooked smile on my face when I use "Spirit Touch" to find the emotions hidden in it, they would see my surprise and confusion behind the true outcome of it, and not only that chances are the "crime scene" could/would have become contaminated from so many vampires becoming curious as to what it is i'm doing.
The story telling side of when I write my note is what I love the most, I can play out a scenario of what I want to do, but to see it in full swing in writing is ultimately what I look forward too on note reply day. I can then see what my creative words have done to lead me to where I am, or instinctively what i've been trying to accomplish without having others around while i'm doing it. I'm a visual person, I read the words and I get lost in them, i picture everything and once that happens my mind just goes... I literally get lost in the literature, and this is what then brings out the more true nature of what my character is accomplishing and at the next gather, she becomes so much more, she becomes my creation, my minds creation and the creation of the story teller's plot line. She essentially comes to life. I love to read, because I envision everything i'm reading, so to read it and watch it come to life and the action/mystery surrounding it, i'm in my zone.
I'm new to the LARP scene myself, not quite 2 years into it. I started in November of 2014. Vampire was the first LARP I had decided that I would give a shot and not a day goes by that I regret that decision. It challenges me and it lets me create something I wouldn't otherwise be able to do on my own, but allowing me to interact with others as well.
But again we all have different views on LARP and the note base LARP, some people aren't good at writing but are really good at being their character, and some aren't good at interacting as their character but can write to their hearts content.
So that's my view on it, or take on it.
