Only one of two things? Kindred are never that simply motivated. Why use or when you can say and?
It's a great strategy; you startle the nest and watch what comes out and how. It's hard to maintain surveillance on a large group of Kindred, but if you know where they're at you set a fire, and suddenly out through the same door they come flooding. Who is scared? Which of them huddle in little groups to talk? Which of them suddenly begin moving strangely on your recorded footage once the others are looking the other way? Who gets into which car, who takes out a phone to make a call, who stays to watch or talk to the mortals and while moves off as quickly as possible? Behaviour in a group of predators is different to individual behaviour, anyhow. Fear is universal, if Kindred react in a similar or dissimilar way it is telling. How many of you were watched, hmm? Was anyone hurt or killed? Because that would have been a shiny bonus for the fire setter. There is that "and" at work.
Next time someone sets your place on fire or proceeds to fuck up your whatever, follow your plan to do something different. Such as smashing out a window or taking the fucking fire escape and heading up to the roof and have a good look around while the chaos theater plays out on the streets. If it's a trap, well, you're screwed anyways. But if it's not then you'll see all sorts of possibly interesting things. If ya don't plan for it in the long run, you're fucked.
And 'sides, you never been in a house on fire before? That shit teaches you to move fast. Great motivator. This is a fucking metropolis. Look up the stats on fires, especially during the winter. You may be alarmed by the data.
Two cents.
